The city of Aventura (www.cityofaventura.com) is
located North of Miami Beach
(map),
an integral part of the Great Miami area and is part of Miami-Dade County
 |
The area grew between
the 70's and the 80's, thanks to an important building development
(by the Oxford Development Company from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)
on a marshy zone called Biscayne Gardens.
|
The first parcelling out
consisted in the building of apartment towers; immediately after the building
of Aventure Mall was started, which is still one of the biggest and beautiful
shopping malls in Miami.
The rapid development
of the area, together with the commercial as well as residential success
of the constructions, brought to the incorporation of the City of Aventura
on November 7th, 1975. |
 |
The town was given the
name of the mall whose success had contributed the most to its birth. Today
the whole area is characterized by many commercial districts where shops
and restaurants are concentrated and by number of housing developments. Most
of them are towers but there also areas of mansions and detached house. As
you can see from the map, City is located close to Biscayne Blvd (Route 1,
running along the Florida coast).
 |
The bay connected
with the Ocean (on some days you can see the dolphins) allows access
to a number of inland lakes, some of which artificial, created by
the draining of the pre-existing marshland.
|
Most of the waterfront
buildings are equipped with ship-docking.
The City covers an
area of 9.1 sq. km, 7 of which land and 2.1 (23.08%) water. |
 |
The inhabitants are 29,391
(2005) metropolitan area 5,422,000.
